I am trying to find out a way to help a friend of mine get rid of a algae problem they have in a "holding pool" the purpose of the holding pool is just a place to keep wild fish he catches out of his lake till he gets enough to fillet out ... thus that is the problem I am having I have no idea how to get rid of algae without making the fish not safe to eat.

I am sorry if I offended anyone by this post, but I do need some recomendations.

How big is the pool? Just throwing stuff out there but would a fairly large pleco work?

Just make sure not to fillets the pleco lol

Is the pond exposed to direct sunlight ?
How warm is the tank compared to the pond ?
Is there any filtration/circulation in the tank ?

If it gets direct sun, try placing a canopy (even just a tarp) above it to block out as much sun as possible. Maybe he could add some powerheads to keep the water circulating. Or he could try adding pond plants to the tank (with a partial canopy). The plants would compete with the algae for nutrients, and should do fine whether or not he has fish in the tank.

How big is the tank?
