I recently got a few wild caught ecuadorian Festae. I was hoping to find a breeding pair, or a nice female. One male grew bigger than all the rest and killed all but one female. They are 4.5 and 3.5 inches at the moment. I really like Festae and would love to keep them long term. The other day I was at my LFS, and completely fell in love with this teeny tiny 3 inch Butterkoferi. I bought it. This was a huge mistake I know! No fights have broke out, all the fish are getting along, but I know I cant keep all three long term. The Butterkoferi is sooo cute and I am completely in love with it. I am also in love with the idea and look of a full grown pair of Festae. What do I do!!!?? Keep the Festae or the Butterkoferi? What are the pros and cons of these choices?

Buy another tank to keep both. This is how people started out with one tank and ended up with with 50 tanks. There is always justification to add one more tank because there are so many species of fish and not enough tanks keep them.

Keep festae and risk them killing each as adults or keep a solo butti. I'd keep the festae personally. I like Buttis but they aren't nearly as stunning(to me at least) as a adult festae. And depending on tank size if one of the festae kills the mate you can maybe add something else,Buttis rarely tolerate other fish as adults

Festae. Idk having a tank with a single butti just doesnt seem appealing. They are a little boring to me (dont hate me guys lol)

I currently have a 7 inch butti and a 5 inch male festae and of the 2 the butti is my favorite. I had a female but the male killed her the week after I had them together. If you had a succesfull breeding pair of fetae that would take lots of time and luck because festae are brutal and slow growing. But a breeding pair of festaee would probably be cooler. On the other hand, almost all festae (including mine) have almost no personality and are normally skittish for almost all of their lives. Buttis (including mine) are the complete opposite. I've had mine since she was less than an inch and she has always been one of my favorites. I really should have made my name buttikoferidan :)
