I need to see some pix of Salvani!

Females have a black blotch on the front half of the dorsal fin, and on the operculum. Males can have one or the other, but not both. Females also show much more yellow and red than males.

Quick search would have netted you this information.

this is my male no black on dorsal

Thanks for the info guys... Japes I'm lazy sometimes:( but I do appreciate the fast replies. The reason I am confused is because at the store I bouught a Tex and Sal out of the same tank. The Tex was all blue in front half and all black on back half. The Sal was very brightly colored and they were paired off defending a rock in the corner. I am pretty positive the Tex is female and thought the Sal was male but to me it looks female.

Do male Tex black out there back half like females when breeding or courting? Maybe they were confused in the lfs tank? The reason I say the tex is female is cause that is all I have ever had and they all got black when about to lay eggs.

My Sal has a ton of black in the dorsal and has a very red belly... They are showing no courting behavior like they did in the lfs tank. Also they hide all the time so a pic is kinda impossible to get... Thanks for the info...

Japes are you referring to the black blotch outlined in blue pearl right on the gill plate under the eye? This mark and on dorsal is female? Male will have one or the other but not both correct? Is this sure fire?

Yes, and I do believe so yes. They're quite an easy fish to sex.

Ok I just looked mine over again and it does NOT have that black blotch on its gill plate. Also it has a bunch of blue lines on its face. After you nicely told me I could have searched it myself... I did... Not that much out there on these fish. Also found out its not a Salvani but a Salvini... lol. I think it stated that a male will have the blue lines on its face and the female as you stated should have both blotches in dorsal and gill plate. I guess mine might be male after all... Thanks for all the good info and if ya got anymore pix I would like to see them anyhow!
