If you read one of my other posts I lost my entire collection of P Bass while i was away on my honeymoon. So I have been cleaning my tanks to get them ready to start over. I went to my FAV LFS yesterday to see if they had any P Bass but they only had 1 so I left him there. However another customer told me a different LFS had tons of P Bass in stock.
So today I went to the other store (one I have had only 1 positive experience in), looking for the fish. I walk around and see the prize approx 2"-4", what looked like Mono P Bass, but priced at $30.00 each. Thinking to myself that they have to be another species I ask a sales person ( of the 4 or so that were working none of them asked if I needed help) what species they were he didnt know and asked another salesman who didnt know and asked why they were $30.00 I chimed in because they look like Monos to me. He stated, "becuase they get to be this big", while holding 2 fingers approx 2' apart. I then ask so the cost of the fish is based on how big the fish will grow, and he responds, "yes". So I say they are only approx 3", and for monos thats not worth it. Then i got the deer in headlights look so I walked away. The sales person then asked the person who orders the fish what species they are and he stated I dont know, there are about 2 different kinds of P Bass but I dont remeber the scientific name. As I walked towards the door the sales person and I were talking and I stated to him by the first guys logic they should be charging $30.00 for gold fish because they have the potential to grow huge as well.
Needless to say i left the fish there, my fav LFS sells mono P Bass approx 1.5"-2.5" @ 3 for $28.00. Rapps has orinos @ $25.00 for 1.5"-2"ers, and NE_Cichilds has tems @ $9.09 unk size.
looks like i will be placing my order this weekend.
