Ok, so here is the deal. I have an empty 40 gallon breeder lying around and I am going to be setting it up. Probably is it did not come with a stand. I have a bad back, but will force myself to take care of it. I have no stand for it so it will be on the grow or quite low, but I'll do. My questions are:
1.) What can I use for a stand? Can I use a sturdy table?
2.) Can I put in on my current stand under my 75?
Appreciate the help,
~Aqua Alex

A 40B will end up weighing 400 lbs. Many people call a table "sturdy" that in no way, shape or form could hold 400 lbs.

Since I have had a bad back, my suggestion is not to put it under a 75 gallon stand. I'd get 6 concrete cinder blocks (8" x 16"), 5 pieces of 36" long 2x4's, and a piece of 36" x 18" plywood and make a stand.

Stack the cinder blocks (open side up) in 2 columns. Put the 2x4's sideways under the 36x18 plywood, then put the 40B on that. (I would not go 4 high in the columns because the center of gravity would be too high for my taste.)

I had my tanks on stacked milkcrates with a board across the top to spread the weight when I was in a dorm. Super cheap (free) and ugly, although I did hide it behind a skin made of painted cardboard on a 1x1 frame, lined with egg cartons, which actually looked nice and kept down the noise from the air pumps. I wish I had taken pictures of it. I assume it is 36", not a 48" 40g. It can go under you 75. You can also shore up a bookcase with 2x4s, that would handle it.
Drstrangelove Drstrangelove 's idea about a cinder block stand is a good one, I have seen such stands and they perform well. You may also want to skin a stand like that.
BTW, a cheap way to make an ugly stand look good is to find someone throwing away a dresser and rip off the front and sides, glue the fronts of the drawers in, and then attach them to the stand with magnets or velcro, so you can still access it.

OK guys awesome! Thank you. I will either do the cinder block and wood stand or the milk crate one. I can cover the milk crate with some blankets or something to make it look better.

Just to make it clear, the milkcrate stand only works if you have a wall of milkcrates with the board on top. The cinderblocks are MUCH stronger.
