Hi Guys,

I have finally gotten my 150G up. It was running for 2 weeks empty, now it's been a week that I put in 3 plants with 3 platies. I was told from my LFS that is the best test to see how well the tank is doing before I move to move expensive fish. (Which I find kind of crule but anyway) This week-end I wanted to go get 6 angle fish to my tank. A friend of mine which is somewhat knowledgable in this field said, No, No you better waite a month ot two to make sure you cycle is good in your tank. We had used old media and rocks from a previously set up tank, which I assumed would help with all of this. When I test my water eveything checks out nicely. What do you suggest? Is this guy out to lunch(which is my thought) or is he right. Does it really mean I have to wait a month to add anymore fish???????????? I've waited so long already. I want a semi planted tank with Angles and then I will add fish to accompany them slowly. PLease help me not screw this up.

:nilly:

Your friend is correct, but there are ways to speed it up. I prefer a fishless cycle myself.

What have you been feeding the filter after you put the old media in? (old media was fresh from the old filter right?)

What did you dechlor with?

add a pack of bio spira and you can add more fish

Dr. Joe,

:( The old media had not been in use for a couple of weeks. I think I have done very wrong I'm affraid. I did not dechlor, the tank had run for 2 weeks with nothing in it so I thought it would be fine(water came from our water softener) Oh man, I think I screwed up going out of the gate here. :(:feedback:

How is bio spira put in? Can I find this at any LFS????
Yes it can be found at alot of LFS.If you can wait,go get like 20 danios or other cheap fish,NOT FEEDERS(parasites, pathogens, etc)and let them do the work.Run that for 3-4 weeks THEN test water THEN proceed to actual livestock.
