My firemouth killed my salvini. I came home from work to find out he ripped her eye out, and she never recovered. I moved her to a hospital tank by herself, and used melafix and that didn't work. I miss this girl, and she was 6'' long :(

A pic of him going after her. It seemed harmless at the time. I learned my lesson: never under estimate a firemouth as a whimpy fish...

sorry on your loss...
i have 2 firemouths in a 90 gallon with cons, dempseys, parrots, and they tag team the other fish.. they are the bully's of my tank also..i heard some are peaceful, but not mine..

again sorry on your loss.

I'm a little less surprised, once I read that it was a male FM and a female salvini . . . my experience with Salvini was that the male was mean and tough, but the female was much more docile . . .

the male Salvini I ended up trading in to the LFS because it was too disruptive; the female - - who I thought was fine - - ended up getting killed while I was away on a trip; didn't see who did it, could have been a male JD or male convict . . .

either way, I'm sorry it happened . . . too bad she couldn't recover . . .

and of course, don't blame the Firemouth; it's just cichlids being cichlids . . .

Thanks, I was just shocked it happened. If anything, I thought it might have been the other way around, but my sal was pretty chill. She would flare her gills at him, but that was it.

I guess it goes to show that cichlid personality can be so different then all the profiles you read.

Sorry for your loss. I want another sal, but might have to move the FM to his own 25g before getting another sal or something else.
