I've used it a couple of times. It's a bag of macro-porous synthetic polymer that's supposed to reduce nitrate and ammonia. It starts off as an off-white colour, then progressively darkens - which apparently means it loses its effectiveness.
The instructions say you can regenerate it with bleach - but I was too scared to muck around with bleach on anything that would go in my tanks. So I threw it out after a single use.

I don't recharge it either. I use it for about 4 months they buy another bag.

Its a great product. Recharging may seem scary but its fine ive done it countless times with no issues.

Its great for keeping nitrates low by removing the organics before they become ammonia

Ive got a crap load sitting in a bucket for the past 6 or 7 months. Think its safe to use. Been submerged btw
