Today at work an older couple came in and brought with them a blizzard leopard gecko.

They had found it stuck in one of those sticky mouse traps at their work and didn't know what it was or what to do with it, they got most of the trap off and had done so by soaking it in salad dressing. I removed the remaining bit of trap off it's head, and washed off the dressing immediatly.
It still has some sticky crap stuck under it's chin but im thinking it will just come off with the next shed, he's completly healthy looking, nice fat plump tail.

I offered to take it off their hands and health it back up.
Now it's in a 15 gallon, which i think is ok for now, he's about 5"
I have used paper towel on the bottom made a bunch of hiding spots for him out of large paper tube cut in half, and put in two large shallow water dishes.

He drank steadily for about 10 minutes as soon as I put him in.

I put in 3 crickets for him, i'm thinking im going to hold off on electrolyte supplement unless i'm sure he's not eating.

He's got a nice night-glo bulb in that i left in overnight to keep him warm.

Im going to get an undertank heater for him tommorow.

I'm very happy with the little guy although it's super stressful making sure he's ok.

If anyone has anything they think i should change please let me know, i want this guy to live a long happy life. :D

They need a moist hide box.Like a small empty butter containr with a hole in the top and damp moss, vermicule. Also no need for a top light. They are nocturnal and do not benefit from any specia; bulbs.Other than that everything else is great

:iagree: The Leopard breeder that I know uses that exact setup.

And yes, the cute blue lighting is more for our enjoyment than theirs. ;) Great save though.

His new setup:

I also asked a question within the picture (wanted to point that out :) )

I think your setup is pretty damn good for just getting him....for my leopard I switched to repti-carpet instead of paper towels, it's easier to clean and you don't have to waste so many towels....It was like 8.99 at Petsmart for two so you'll always have a clean one to put in......Also for the heat if your putting a lot of layers down, I use two cermaic tiles in my Leopard tank, that way is can conduct the heat better.........Good luck with the new guy;) ......

I never used a heater pad with my Leo's, I was told it could burn them. Either way, I'm sure the if the Lizard is uncomfortable with the heat, it'll move to someplace that is more comfortable. Afterall, they can't be that stupid to sit there and burn themselves right? LOL

Put a lid on the moist box. The whole point of it is to trap moisture and humidity. I used a Cool Whip container. Stuffed it with peat moss that was kept damp. I cut a cricle in it so they could walk in and out.
I only had one Leo that wouldn't use it. He much preferred to rest inside the water dish.

My leopard actually likes his UTH but to each his own..........That is a good call on the moist box, you really do want a lid on it....I used a butter container, cut a hole out of the side, put a paper towel in the lid, closed it shut, moistened it, and thats my wetbox........

You would think so, but many lizards won't move. That's why hot rocks are so dangerous. I've personally never come across an authenticated account of any lizard burned from the use of a undertank heater (at least not when the UTH was used properly). I've kept Leos with them before without issues. But like someone said, to each his own.

get a good thermostat or get rid of the heat pad! i just had my female gecko get burned really bad by her heatpad, we moved the tank into my brother's room and my mom was taking care of them so i only would check up on them every couple weeks, now her tail is mostly healed but her feet are swollen lumps of scabs. just stick to the bulb.

I'm sure you all know I'm a metalworker.. ..but I'm going to use some wood too..

building a 72"x48"x24" cage for two peach throat monitors.. I found a piece of 75"x30" plexiglass... ..got a friend with an 8'x4' router table.. so I figure I'll make a nice front window with doors.. start from there.
