I put a lid on the container, it's a tupperware, so the lid snaps on and off, i just stuck it back on. Good idea to retain humidity.
I'm going to leave the undertank heater in, i've read more positive the bad news about them.
It's designed to work with sufficient substrate, thats why i've layered the towel over it, and ive checked it at least 50 times today with my hand.
It's exo-terra, and the manual writes that it's been designed to stay at a temp suitable for desert reptiles, therefore, it isn't able to keep on heating up until it's as hot as the sun, it stops at a set temperature, it's also got a nice chart of various heat conductivity's of various substrates.
I've heard bad stories like that about Heat Rocks, the ceramic of the rock retains the heat and even though the heater is designed not to get hotter, the retained heat from the rock get's added on. Lizards can fall asleep because it feels nice at first and then become toast.
I'll just moniter the temp closely and make sure it's not to hot.
COOOL! but what are you talking about? wrong thread maybe?
