Today at work an older couple came in and brought with them a blizzard leopard gecko.

They had found it stuck in one of those sticky mouse traps at their work and didn't know what it was or what to do with it, they got most of the trap off and had done so by soaking it in salad dressing. I removed the remaining bit of trap off it's head, and washed off the dressing immediatly.
It still has some sticky crap stuck under it's chin but im thinking it will just come off with the next shed, he's completly healthy looking, nice fat plump tail.

I offered to take it off their hands and health it back up.
Now it's in a 15 gallon, which i think is ok for now, he's about 5"
I have used paper towel on the bottom made a bunch of hiding spots for him out of large paper tube cut in half, and put in two large shallow water dishes.

He drank steadily for about 10 minutes as soon as I put him in.

I put in 3 crickets for him, i'm thinking im going to hold off on electrolyte supplement unless i'm sure he's not eating.

He's got a nice night-glo bulb in that i left in overnight to keep him warm.

Im going to get an undertank heater for him tommorow.

I'm very happy with the little guy although it's super stressful making sure he's ok.

If anyone has anything they think i should change please let me know, i want this guy to live a long happy life. :D

Awesome !!! Is this your first reptile/lizard? If so, remember he will like it pretty warm - Get him something to warm the underside of his tank - those heat mats work well - but do not cover the entire bottom underside, and people often use day lamps as well for upper heat / basking. Sounds like you're doing everything else right so far. Don't worry about fancy-ing your food - vary his insect diet as much as possible. Leo's are great little guys. A 15 is plenty for now. Enjoy

Yay! thank you!

no it's not my first, ive got a pair of anoles, and i've owned other species of gecko's and frogs in the past. I'm going to get a heatmat for under his tank tommorow. I'll try him on some mealworms and butterworms as soon as I see him start eating :)

thanks again.

Butterworms are favorable, but they are fatty, so feed those sparingly. A mix of crickets, mealworms, butterworms, roaches, etc. and you'll be in good shape

Ummm...are you for sure this is a leopard gecko? I only ask because unless this couple works at a petstore or keeps leopards themselves, I wonder why a lizard native to the Middle East would be cuaght in one of their traps. Also, the small Mediterranean gecko, (which to a layperson looks very similar to a leopard gecko) is native to the US, and would be a more likely candidate for getting stuck in a trap.

pics??

I live in Canada not US and essentially NO lizards are native to here.

It is definetly a leopard gecko, I've attached a picture of him and the setup I have him in.

I'm the one working at a petshop and they brought him to me not knowing what to do with it. Apparently it was found at the office building they work at, so i'm fairly sure someone may have lost it or let it loose as a joke.

Either that, or they were simply lying to me and it got out on them in their own home and they set down traps to catch it or something.

I'm definetly going to keep this guy, since the people who gave it to me told me they had no idea what to do with it and that they don't want it. That and I also don't trust them, since i don't know wether they were honest or not, but the fact that it wound up in a mousetrap definetly doesn't lead me to believe they were caring properly for it.

I syringed him some electrolyte supplement (that herpcare stuff thats packed with vitamins and minerals, etc) and he's eaten a few crickets.
I'm really stoked that he's eating already after all that stress.

nice pickup those guys get pricey too..

Nice geckos.

Geckos living in Canadian home isn't impossible. I know my grandmother caught a crested gecko in her new home. Maybe the former owner of the house lost it?

We have virtually no lizards here... six species: 3 species of skinks, an alligator lizard and 2 horned lizards.

Up here in Canada, we have the Five Line Skink Eh.
