Someone had an iguana they couldn't care for anymore, so I took it off their hands. It was a lot larger than said on phone, a good 15 LBer. Anyways, it seems very healthy, just the tank was too small for it, so it has nose rub. Should I trim the nails of the iguana? They seem a bit long.

Unfortunately, my phone is windows and laptop is apple, so I can't transfer pictures.

It's usually better because a) you'd be surprised how much damage their nails can do, I found out the hard way, and b) the nails could snag on something (ouch!). Besides, if you give them a ramp that's inclined and easy to climb, why should they need nails?

Just be sure not to cut into the quick. That means just cut the clear, pointy part. Otherwise it'll bleed, and I'm assuming it'll cause them some pain.

The nails are black, I couldn't tell where the meat and the nail is. Some of his nails are like an inch long. Maybe I should leave it, I plan on letting it walk around the yard tomorrow, there is a lot of concrete it could maybe wear them down on.

The quick is in the part of the nail that suddenly gets thicker. Cut BEFORE it.

If you decide not to, be careful. Iguanas are fully capable of shredding cloth... imagine what they can do to skin!

Thank you, that pic is very helpful. Yeah, the nails are very long then, specially the long finger ones.

I'm suprised to how docile this Iguana is, he puffs up and everything, but still haven't got the whiptail.

LOL no problem, I love iguanas and I'm glad you rescued this one.

Oh, the whipping is the worst! A big iguana managed to whip me in the neck once. OWWW! I had a big, long red welt there for about 6 hours.

Here ya go:D I couldnt have showed it better;) As for the new ig, if you need any help or care tips just wisle:D

Dont cut the nails, let them wear down on their own by providing some stones and letting it walk around some concrete. One bad snip and they whole nail, or digit could completely decay and fall off.
