I´m not an expert for that group of fish. There is an aquarium in one of our meeting rooms. They have several fish in it. One of the fish is a pretty massive cichlid. He is blue with dark stripes and digs alot in the gravel. The fish is a bit smaller than me hand i guess. Since i don´t know the name i can´t find pics of it, but i´m pretty sure its one of the rift lake cichlids. Can you help me please?

Thats it. It even has those small yellow dots on the fins. It looks almost like that, but is much stronger build. Maybe its a pretty old male.
They get about 6" max...so its probably a pretty old male. But, just because it has those small yellow dots on its anal fin AKA "egg spots", doesn't mean it is a male...although males are usually the ones that have that. The only sure way to know a female african cichlid from a male is to vent it UNLESS that species is dimorphic (meaning males and females have distinct coloring patterns), because even females can develop egg spots.
