I made a post a before about tons of very small particles in my 125 that make it look pretty gloomy.

People gave me great suggestions on that thread, but I still have not gotten rid of the particles.

The stocklist is in my signature. I have 2 XP3s and an Emperor 400. I do a 50% water change once a week, and I clean the filters (not the bio of course) every other week, and I vacuum the gravel every other week. Every time I test the parameters, they are fine.

I still kinda lean towards the idea that these particles are air bubbles, but they are so small it is hard to tell. But I am not sure if they are bubbles because when I turn the filters off, the particles do not rise to the surface, they just stay suspended in the same spot. Could this be air, even though it does not go to the surface?

I do not think the problem is algae, because the room remains pretty dark and I have the lights on a timer. Furthermore, these particles are present right after I do a 50% water change:nilly::nilly::nilly:

I followed other's suggestions about eliminating the possibility that my XP3s are causing small air bubbles, and that did not work. I am almost to the point of taking my XP3s out of the equation and running on all power filters. I never hear people complain about XP3s though, so I don't know that that will be the solution.

One more thing- although the surface is agitated pretty well, there is kind of a white film on the surface. The film could be caused by these dang particles.

Does anyone have suggestions for me? Please help me! I put so much time into this tank, and all I want is pristine water:(

Had a similar problem, source was something in the substrate the I used in a particular tank, finally got it cleaned up by using Geo liquid, which caused the float material to clump and then vacuum out. hope this helps.

Bubbles float in water...no doubt about that :D.

Have you tried polishing pads in the canisters?

Does it show up if you just stir up the substrate a little?

Does it show up immediately after a W/C? or in a few hours?

Should have continued this from the other thread too.

It shows up immediately after a water change even when I don't touch the gravel.

I use the pads that come with the XP3.

my xp2 does the same thing. If you look through the tank longways does it look dirty and hard to see through? I think it has something to do with the xp3's.

Diatom filters are great for these kinds of problems!

Are the bubbles clear or solid looking? Top fully enclosed?

Possible these could be particals of the food you're feeding or stool that get sucked in to the filter then blown out after a water change?

The white film I've only ever found in water with no surface agitation. Are you sure you're getting surface agitation?
