I think a rock fell onto my Jack Dempsey, It is hard for me to tell what happened or maybe he crashed into the side of my tank. He is acting strange, not really swimming around as much as he was. Are these fish hardy enough to recouperate from something like this? ( If this is indeed what happened to him) I dont what to do for him??????:(

thatd be funny if there weren't even any rocks in her tank

Honestly I think Jack Dempseys are pretty hardy, just keep an eye on him, not much you can do if there is like internal damage, just don't let (if there are any) other tankmates stress him out or beat him up.

Yes I have rocks in my tanks, Jack goes into hiding, he will come out to eat only if the food is near him and then he shys right away, goes back into hiding. I don't see any cuts or bites on him. His tank mates are a 2.5 inch frontosa, 2 plecos, 1 2.5 inches calvus, 1 3inch venusa, 1 3inch convict and a paliterous. Jack is about 5 inches long. Jack will put himself between 2 rocks and lay on his side for a short time then he will swim back over to his other hiding place and back himself in between 2 rocks and sit there. No-one seems to bother him. He looks sad to me. I do have a new bubbler in there?? hmmm...

i had a jack for a couple years that every now and then would become shy and hide. After a couple of days hed finaly stop hiding so much

my jacks are like that. they are fine and swimming around for a couple days then they become really chill and hide until food is around. that last for a couple days then its back to being fun. its a vicious cycle.

Do you feed live food?

I fed my Female feeder guppies for about a week when she was 3". She chased them so hard she slammed into a rock or pc of wood in the tank. I don't feed her live food anymore. One side of her head turned black for 2 weeks. Looked like somebody punched her in the eye.

maybe she got too agressive and hurt herself a little.

I just kept feeding mine high protein (thought it'd help the healing) and she came around...all good now

Good Luck!
