i think i just got a Synodontis Frontosus

it has been in wal-marts top tank for over a month. it has in the african cihlid tank hiding on the bottom or side of the tank. wal-mart does not sell these fish i do not know nor did wal-mart know what it is or how it got there so i got it for 1.97. here is a pic tell me what you think it is

yes he is looked him on planet catfish it looks the same down to the feather barbs on bottom lip. so was 1.97 a good price? i can not find how much there going for on line yet.

LIZ and me think we do too. Mine doesn't look like yours though, he's plain grey and when my two were young their spots were higher on the body

that looks like S Nigrita to me

it does kind of look like it. still a nice fish. how can you tell if it is one or the other. he seems to like being upside down under things. not bad for a wal-mart find.

umm the easiest way to tell the difference would be to just wait it out. The front will get to about a foot, and Nigritia only grows to about 7. So a 5 inch difference. The only other thing that i can think of is that Nigrita has striping on its fins, but i cant find a good pic of a juvenille Front. But im definately leaning more towards nigrita just because frontosus is so rare, and Nigrita is often mixed in with Nigriventris, and i know that wal mart carries those.
