so i went to all the LFS nearby today, i was looking for ammonia nitrite nitrare test kit, and dechlorinator/tap water conditioner... and guess what? none have it and the lot of them dont even know what they are.. all they know about water parameter is just Ph.

i asked them about what water they use for water change, and supprisingly they all said they just use tap water, let it settle for 24 hours and thats it..

now im stuck.. :(

i wanna try to do the right thing but i just dont have the resources to do it.. i dont have any friends with fish hobby so i cant ask any 2nd or 3rd opinion other than the nearby LFS.

i guess to be safe i will just use drinking water for wc (brand : aqua)...or just follow them?

any opnions folks?

Are you in the US?

+1 to Amazon. Prime is available on Prime (LOL) too. Free two day shipping. I buy it by the gallon so I don't have to order often.

Hello; All may not be lost. I also just allow my tap water to sit in containers for a time, usually around four days. I do not use the water conditioning chemicals ( the dechlor type.)

I am fortunate in that my local tap water is treated only with chlorine. I have done this for a few decades.

Check with the water company to see what they use to treat the tap water. If only chlorine you should be able to do this.

I used to do this as well but what do you do about the temperature of the sitting water when adding it to your tank?

hello; This time of year (winter for me in Tennessee, USA) I have the containers in the heated area of the house. I use some five and six gallon containers with about 12 one gallon jugs.
Six gallons being about what I can handle anymore.

Around a 8 to 10 degree difference between room temp and tank temp. I run low stocking density tanks and do around 20% volume WC at any one time.

I may be wrong but have the impression the OP may be in an area of the world with a warmer climate than me.
