Hey again guys. Sorry for all the posts recently.

but i need some more help. i believe my aruanti has external parasites and since it was wild caught and i dont know a whole lot about this stuff i thought i'd ask before doing anything. Ever since i got it, it has had this small spot on its tail, at first i just assumed that it was a small injury or something along those lines, but its been a while now, and its started to get bigger over the past few days. it dose not seem to be spreading at all its just the one spot on the tail. I have taken some pictures of it, but in those pictures it looks very white and almost like fungus but in person it looks very transparent. any idea what this is? and if/what i should do about it?

Thanks in advance.

you can try some ( vetark professional fluke solve professional) it comes in a powder form and you treat according to your tank size. I polyterus polli that was wild cought and was covered in hair like worms that spread to my other bichirs this stuff cleared up the problem with one dose in 4 days I also used some on my pulchra when I first got it as it was eating like a hog but was still skinny and had stringy white poo as I suspected internal parasites after one dose he started putting on weight you could give it a try it didnt harm my pulchra I recently bought another pack to keep in case I get any more wild caught fish. You can get it from amazon or ebay about £15 uk price

I would just treat them if you are ever worried about it. I would put the fish in isolation(a bucket or a spare tank) and treat with methelyne blue, personally.
It's better to be safe than sorry.

I like the idea of "natural" medicine on Channas because of their slime coat, they're not all that tolerant to heavy treatments.

hey guys sorry i havent replyed in a few days.

I don't know if the fish has taken a turn for the worse, or if something spooked it allot, but when i went to fed it 2 days ago, it only ate half of what it usually eats, and it seemed kind of spooked out. Then hid for the entire next day, which is very much unlike the fish. its usually out in the open at all times. i thought it might just have been spooked, i thought i would give it a day, and see how the fish reacted. It seemed to get a little better the next day, it was swimming around a bit more, but still hiding allot. Then today it seemed like it was a bit better again, so i tried feeding it. It seemed semi interested in the food, but when i put the food closer to it it seemed panicked and swam off and hid, again very much unlike it. it usually go absolutely crazy when i feed it. i don't know if something spooked the fish when i fed it 2 days ago, or maybe it has internal parasites as well?

i was thinking of ordering the vetark since it seems to be specifically for parasites, but if you guys think its a bad idea i can try something else, i could also try the methelyne blue but that dose not seem to be against parasites correct me if i am wrong?

i am not sure what to do atm so any advice would be very welcome

when you say natural treatments what do you mean? sorry i dont know a whole lot about treating sick fish.

Thanks in advance

i should probably add that the fish was in perfect health untill 2 days ago besides the spot on the tail. The water parameters are good and the temp is 23,5 and im still slowly lowering it a little. i have not changed the water. I have dosed a little bit of fertilizer for heavily planted tanks to keep the plants alive since theres alot. could the fertz be the cause of the odd behavior?

How high has the temperature been? I wouldn't keep mine at higher than 23 °c for any length of time, don't be worried about dropping the temperature, if you are going to give him/her a cooler season, i would go as low as 14°c.
It could be the fertiliser, they are quite sensitive to changes in the water conditions. Even a 20% water change has been enough to cause change in my experience.
I think Madou was only objecting to my suggestion of using Methelyne blue, not the remedy that bathawk suggested.
It's a case of each to their own with these things, whatever works for you.
I usually keep a supply of Melafix, Pimafix and Methelyne blue myself.
I would treat for parasites if you are worried, you know your fish best. See what your local fish shop has.

the temp was a bit over 25 when i got the fish because it was over 25 in the store, and i did not want to shock it by dumping the temperature, i have turned off the heater and the room temp is 21, so hopefully it will end up around that. Its just with the full cover lid its taking a while to go down in temp, since i cant really keep it open for long periods at the time.

hopefully its the fertz i stupidly added i have used a different kind of fert before which dose not seem to bother it so i thought i would supplement it a bit, in hind sight that was stupid. i am going to keep a close eye on the fish over the next couple of days but i don't think i will dose it with and meds atleast for now while it recovers. after that i will see what happens.

i will let you guys know how the fish acts over the next couple of days, and if anybody have any more input on the thing on its tail don't hesitate to let me know. because i am still not sure what to do about it.

Hi I am no channa expert but now the temprature is dropping I notice my rainbow snake head and my pulchra are no long the greedy fish they were during the summer my rainbow will only eat a few meal worms y pulchra now will only eat prawns and meal worms . I have my rainbow snake heads third winter and it has happened three times the first time I thought it was going to it even got quite thin but as the temprature got warmer by may he was eating anything again maybe your fish is going through same changes

I definitely can't diagnose the issue from the picture, but I want to mention that the spot on the tail could be something different from the other symptoms you are seeing. For instance, if it is lymphocystis then you are dealing with a viral infection resulting from a weakened immune system (probably from stress). While lymphocystis isn't lethal, it is unsightly. It typically clears up with stress reduction. However, while your other symptoms could be indicative of stress, they could also be from another illness produced from the same weakened immunity that caused lymphocystis.

Or it could all be one infection. Who knows?
