i think my severums tried to mate

so i did a water change the other night and the water from the tap ws a bit to warm and the tank got up to about 82or83 degrees so i was worried but then 5 minutes later i see my red spotted gold severum and my gold severum locking lips fo like 10 mins but i found no eggs could it be there just not mature enough yet they are both under 4 inches thankyou for any input

i think that means they don't like each other lmao.
 
They're too young to be sexually matured. Wait until they reach 5-6 inches. That's the time they usually begin to spawn. Mine spawned at least four times but I have no intention to breed. Liplocking is not a sign of mating. It is simply a sign of rivalry or dominance. Mating pairs often engage in this violent behavior.
 
My Green Severums lay eggs every 9-12 days . They are a mated pair and I have fry from them now in another tank , but I have never seen them lock lips . Before spawning they will display and shimmy near each other . The female will also get a little aggressive right before a spawn and the male will dig alot of holes .
