I've noticed lately that both my Texas and Parrot have been close with each other the past two weeks after being in my mixed CA/SA 210 gallon tank for 2 months.

Roughly a week ago they both moved into a rock cave section in my tank after I performed a water change and re-decorated the whole tank after introducing a newly purchased Arowana last Sunday.

Now both my Texas and Parrot are young and I haven't sexed them because they are only 3-4" and in my opinion, too undeveloped to spawn and produce fry but I may be wrong.

Just three days ago I noticed my Texas performing weird behavior that I have never experienced in my newly developed tank of only 3 months. A strange waddling type behavior, making circles around my Parrot and nudging into her gently.

Furthermore, they both have become extremely aggressive to every single fish that comes within 1 square foot of them. The Texas shows 90% of the aggression and seems to be protecting the Parrot by chasing off and nipping anything that lurks by, especially larger fish such as my 5" Red Devil, 4.5" Green Terror, and 4" Black Belt. This has me leading the Texas into being Male and the Parrot being female. There are no eggs present at this time and it seems as if the Texas and Parrot are keeping all the fish away because they feel threatened as if they spawned and had eggs.

The aggression has been getting worse by the day. The Texas has started lip-locking with my 5" male Red Devil and actually holds his ground and forces the Red Devil to give up and retreat to his established part of the tank which is literally a self produced bunker he made by moving 1/3 of my substrate in every which way underneath the Texas and Parrot. My 8" Male Frontosa can't even come close otherwise both the Texas and Parrot will attack him at the same time.

I would highly appreciate it if everyone can watch the video I made showing all of these behaviors I have been witnessing. I recorded this video Thursday night and like I said, both the Texas and Parrot's aggression becomes worse by the day. I almost feel the Parrot is holding but strongly feel these guys are too young and haven't even developed into sexual maturity yet.

Any/All comments are welcome and highly appreciated.

I am also trying to figure out how the fry will come out and develop if it happens.

This can also play out in two (2) scenarios:

Texas-(Female)
Parrot-(Male)

Would that produce the true "Red Texas"

Texas-(Male)
Parrot-(Female)

Would this produce a Parrot looking Texas?

Thanks to everyone who helps me out!

they wil not produce a RT they'll will mostly look like a texas with slight red tint
maby a few might have some good red coloring and pearls but they would be blue pearls
a few could fade too. but it is a start of trying to make a RT

I see, did you watch the video?

How far off do you think they are from being sexually mature?

I guess the red texas breeding is something like the ebjd breeding?

id say ther old enofe to produse fry. the texas sould be fully mature 7-9 inch mark
not quite positive on the parrot?? but it depends on the fish, cant really say this fish will be mature on how old it is or size of the fish. if they spawn you could get some fry
but the male probly wouldent no how to frtilize the eggs the first time.

Congrats, looks like they are spawning.
