I went out of town for the weekend, when I came back my 2.5 inch texas had a super white head. Is it in breeding colors? Doesn't this also mean it is a female?

no thats not breeding colours, when it gets breeding colours, it become half black almost.

not sure what this white is, get a pic,

breeding colors, you are correct, does not make it female though

I think it may also have something to do with asserting, or attempting to assert, dominance. I have a juvenile Texas in a 90 gal. with several other juvenile cichlids and mine gets this coloration off and on. Seems to be more prominent when there is gill flaring going on. No breeding or pairing up has occured, though.

I'll try and get a picture with my cell phone. It seems to be alot more aggressive. It used to get picked on by my firemouth but now it won't let anyone pick on it.

Here is a crappy cell pic.
