If you know anything that can help me I'd really appreciate it. My umbee has suddenly become a darker colour. He is not moving as much as he used to when I'm around him. He also doesn't spread his tail fins out as much and he is starting to scratch on the gravel. I have done nothing different except change his food to a different brand of pellat but I always do daily water changes. If anything seems familiar to you please help me.

Why are you doing daily wc's. When you do these wc's do you add dechlorinator such as prime.

When I say daily water changes I dont mean every day I mean I keep them going and keep the tank clean. I do use dechlorinator.

Ammonia is 0, nitrate is 0, ph is 7.6 and nitrite is 1.

How long has your aquarium been up and running ? Also what type of filter are you using? The reason I am asking is due to the Nitrite 1ppm and 0 Nitrate.

If you do have nitrite problems you can add a little aquarium salt or marine salt. Just don't use the iodized stuff from the store. 1tsp per 20 gallons should do the trick. The chloride ion in the salt has a higher affinity than nitrite for uptake sites at the gill, so very little nitrite will enter the fish.
