i was leaving my house to work when i noticed something odd in my tank

feces that was clear and white, i was like wTF!!!!!!

no fish have been added for over a year

i thinking it came from the raw seafood i feed, tapeworm cyst or something that was in the flesh.

:help2:

i need to start feeding new life spectrum and cooking any raw meat......

oh what to treat with......

...Metronidazole.;)

Why would you cook raw meat for the fish? They are fed raw and even raw meat carries a risk of intestinal parasites.(Er...you've got to be kidding, Delgado.:D I know that you know a lot.:))

Clear to white slimy or stringy feces is almost always from a protozoal infection such as hexamita, as Bluebell (by the way, I'm colorblind and have a hard time reading Bluebell's post) says, metronidazole is a pretty universal cure for those. It is also a med that, as far as I know, does not hurt fish. Major stress, especially if it invovles any squeezing of the fish can also cause this symptom but cultures usually show it just triggered a dormant infection.

Oh sorry about that.:)

My second paragraph on previous post.:)

Agreed. Guppy, a person in one of the forums I'm a member of is asking about its effects on shrimps and plants. I used Flagyl and other generic Metros various times and never had issues with my shrimps. What about the sensitive species of plants? I can't offer any proof though about how the sensitive plants will tolerate Flagyl as I used plants mostly that are easy to grow like the Cabomba. Sometimes, I want to even commit suicide for the lack of selection of plants here for me to try.

Sorry to hijack the thread, Delgado.:D

My GT had that long stringy clear poop... I fed him some new life spectrum(not sure on spelling) and he is fine and eating everythin now

Sorry to hear that I've had some bad experiences with internal parasites, I treated my discus with just metronidazole and had a relapse, so I went with the metro and a dewormer, this worked quite well. To check out this treatment click on the link and scroll down to the "Internal clean up kit" plus you can also treat any fresh food with the dewormer as a preventative.

Second method I used with my SA cichlids for internals was the cheap ole Jungle Brand tablets they sell at Petsmart. It worked well after a double treatment.

Also raising the temp in the tank helps I went up to 90 degrees for my discus but you can't go that high fish your fish, maybe 84 degrees

Good Luck with this

holy hell it say it treats up to 180 gallons but i need to apply the same dose everyday for 5 days?

hey delgado,

didn't you look into geltek food in the past?
i wasn't too sure it would work but it worked in my battle with internal parasites.
(started by nls misuse to my belief lol)

that is if you know who to treat, but apparently the gel is safe for 'all'? uncertain about that one.
