Our little baby was born in the tank, she was our first. We put her in a pup tank with the other new babies, and 2 discus until their new tank was done. The discus were NOT happy about the babies being in the tank at all. They were all veying for the same spot int he tank. Yesterday at some point during the day I think the male discus went after her. He either sucked on her eye or just flat tried to bite it. It looks really bad! I am pretty sure she is going to lose that eye and possibly far worse than that. We moved the discus out last night into their own 90 gallon but I am afraid the damage is done. They were only all in one tank for 2 days. So I have salted the tank, turned off the lights upped the temp a tad and now it is just time to sit back, wait and pray. She is luckily still eating so that is a good thing. But I am afraid infection is going to set in and she is so little still maybe 4 inches. She is only 3.5 months old. Any advice or anything else I could do to help her would be greatly appreciated.

Oh that super SUCKS! Glad you got the unhappy discus in another tank. I will cross my fingers for you and the little girl. Salt, calm and dark can heal a lot as we know with her daddy. Hopefully the worst is a lost eye.

looks like u done the best u can for now, things like this happen in hobby. ill be sure to note that so i dont make same mistake. guess time will tell, hope the pup does ok. shoot i hope they all do. i might wanna wanna those pups someday. love ur rays. good luck, got my fingers crossed for u

just keep doing what you are doing good clean water and salt will help keep infections down and are good for healing.

good luck and can you get any pics to show us how bad?

Tried taking pictures last night but she was staying buried and I didn't want to disrupt her....but this morning she is actually doing better. Her eye looks better and she is cruising the tank for food. Last night she had skin comming off around her eye and it was swollen up around her eye this morning some of the swelling is gone and the skin that was comming off sluffed off but looks good where it came off. Well off to do a water change as the first kids to the daycare today won't be in until 9am. She may just pull through this.....my BF said he has never been that emotionally attached to an animal and he said if we lost Eleanore he would be heart broken :) sweet guy. But I now know no mated breeding pairs of Discus with ray's they are just too territorial. I hear that discus are good with ray's but I think if they are a breeding pair it is a NO NO! Thanks guys for the thoughts for her. I will try and get a picture today but I am not gonna disrupt her to do it.

Good luck with her.

What would happen if she lost her eye? Is it bound to get infected anyway? I just fed her and she ate like a pig and is just as active as always. Seems as if she can't see out of the eye at all but really doesn't seem to bother her.

you would be surprised how tough rays are

it will heal in no time ;)
