I did some cichla rearranging the other week to kind of encourage breeding. well, that failed. i introduced an 16-18" orino from my azul tank into the tank with my two prized kelberi. the kelberi were not only longer but much fatter and healthier than this orino. The orino bullied the azuls in the other tank but I thought he'd be put in his place in this tank by my other orino and these kelberi....WRONG :irked:

Things were great for the first few days but then the orino decides to beat the crap out of my 14" fei feng...i remove the fei feng thinking the other cichla would be fine. same thing, all is good for a few days. come home from work to find one of my kelberi's tail slightly jacked up and he's hiding! I figured it was the orino so I turned off the lights and hoped that the beating would subside. I was tired of this bully so i posted him up for a quick sale (Thanks Boreek) while i was at work. well....it was a bright and sunny day and i KNEW when i got home the kelberi would be in worse shape but nothing prepared me for what I saw. tail was in bad shape and he was hiding in the corner now.. I quickly remove the orino and drop him off to the buyer. Hoping things would get better the next day if no one continued to beat on the kelberi i go to bed. after work..the kelberi is still alive and upright but he's floating at the water surface with his tail out of the water.... NOT GOOD! I quickly move some fish and set up a quarantine tank (20L) that is wayyy too small for him but you gotta do what you gotta do.

I do a 60% WC on the 20L, dumped some salt and melafix in the tank and waited a bit before moving the kelberi over. the fish couldn't turn in the tank :( but its the only thing i had set up. kelberi goes belly up and i'm like CRAPPPPP. I got to bed expecting to find the kelberi ready for the freezer in the AM but the girlfriend convinces me to have hope.

Well.....this morning he was breathing normal and right side up!!! :headbang2His tail is still pretty jacked but i'm hoping with lots of WC's and plenty of rest, it should heal up really quick and he'll be back in the big tanks in no time.

Anyone have other suggestions for helping a wounded fish?

Sounds like your doing all of it....maybe go get a cheap and larger QT tank off craigslist. Add a UV.....

that's an awesome idea gangster. going to see if i have a small enough pump for the tank to run the UV i have. Might shuffle some fish around so I don't have to get another tank.

Or even going find a cheap rubbermaid tote you can get one of those for cheap ( just saying would be the cheaper option )

I can't believe I didn't think of that, i have plent of tubs i use to transport fish in. good call cakilla!
