I was wrong... I put three 2.5" tin foil barbs in with my 5-6" Venezuela, now there is one left, pulled out and put in a 10 gal grow out for a bit. I had no idea how much these guys can eat!

It is amazing what they can put in their mouth. It wasn't that long ago that my marm at 6" swallowed 3 Australian Rainbows that were 2.5" in one day. Came home from work and it looked like she was going to burst open. Another time she ate a 3-3.5" F1 Vieja
Regani. If it looks even questionable, it is!

Yeah, you can't underestimate the maw of a Crenicichla. If you are in doubt, don't keep it together. Generally though, you want the fish to be AT least half the size of the pike, its better if they are close to or large than the pike though. Depth of the fish is also very important. Don't keep shallow bodied fish like bala sharks for dithers. Keep silver dollars and the like, as they are too 'deep' bodied to be swallow, well, by most pikes...lol. Can't forget about that elastic stomach either. Almost every pike has one, and eyes that are too big for it....so its a bad combo...lol

hahahahahaha. I don't even think mine is hungry sometimes when he eats other fish, I think he just wants to see if he can pull it off.
