Ok, so I want another reptile.. but I don't know what..

I want something that won't mind being handled

I was thinking crested gecko, or a tokay gecko..

Can't get snakes, fiance said no. And can't get anything big like a tegu, unless there are tegus that stay smaller and won't eat my cats!

Any suggestions?

I recommend a bearded dragon, leopard gecko, or blue-tongued skink. I've had all three (currently just keep a blue-tongued as the sole lizard here). Tokays can be downright nasty, and crested I've heard good things about, but they are apparently pretty targetted by cats. Beardies do need high desert temperatures, UVB, and a mixed diet. Leopard geckos do not need UVB and I kept a breeder colony for years fed on gutloaded mealworms. The blue-tongue skink, Jackie, is by far the largest of the three listed, topping out at two and a half to three feet, but she is VERY laid back, is hand-fed, and eats a mix of canned high quality cat food, mixed salad greens, melons, etc.

I have heard Tokays have aggression issues... so I might have to look into that a little more.

I do NOT want leopard geckos. They just don't appeal to me. But my cats aren't even allowed in the room where they are, so no worries about targeting.

I currently keep plated lizards, and they are almost the same care as beardies, so I could do that..

I would love a BTS, but talk about expensive. lol.

I had my eyes on a blue collared lizard on kingsnake.com, but he's not there anymore. :(

I have a 10 month old male crested that would be an awesome pet for you. He doesn't mind being handled at all. In fact he's the most chill gecko I've hatched so far. And yes, he's very healthy and eats like a pig.

How much?

Also, how common is it for them to drop their tails? Sucks they don't grow back. :(

If you are debating on a BTS, check out your local reptile show. Prices drop like mad there. I got my mom a fire-red one a few years back for about $200.

The Hamburg Show is this weekend :)

As long as you don't pull or pinch their tails they're pretty reluctant to drop off. Of course if they do come off they can live just fine. In fact I believe over 80% of wild adult cresteds are missing their tails.

One of my favorite ones I have is missing the tail, I bought it like that, no more fear of loosing it and its a little beast of a friendly pet. Im talking about the crested gecko of course.

uromastyx...easy to care for, like a beardie but eats less and need higher temps
