As the title states I'm looking to setup a small tank 20-40 gallon for a single red wolf. I have had several in the past but they have never had that killer temperament I'm looking for. I think my problem then was over-feeding and they just got lazy. Is there any way to assure aggression?

I think it's the luck of the draw imo. I had one that would kill everything. Now I have one that's mild and on occasion aggressive. Also if you feed it live food. It will always think anything moving is food and be aggressive toward it.

You can boost aggression and prolong their lives by restricting feedings to small portions and skipping a day of feeding every few days. These are pounce predators and are not successful at feeding during every hunt. I maintained my purple wolf for five years on this regimen before I sold him. He was more active than a friend's fatter wolf that was fed every day.

Well, for me if I want the fish at it max aggressiveness, true predator then I would feed it live food :D
Most folks will disagree with me that keep their predator on prepare food or pellets...it's defeated the purpose of "predator" :D

I agree completely with Oddball. Skip feeding a day every so often. I like to tap on the tank immediately before I drop the food in. They get into a habit of coming up to receive the food right after you tap on the tank. Most fish pick up on it really quick. If they are hungry, you very often get a massive strike when they hit the food . My Wolffish come to me immediately now that they realize I'm the food source. IMO, hunger is the key. You've gotta realize that in the wild, food doesn't get brought to the fish every day at 6:00 like it does in captivity. For the most part, the Wolffish's stomach is empty a lot of the time in the wild. Keep it hungry and your gonna get the aggressive fish you want, IMO once again. Thanks
