:nilly: I have a 36gallon bow tank that is cycling right now. When it is cycled, Id like to add some soft corals.

I was thinking mushroom corals because Im a beginner to saltwater altogether.

Whats a good lighting system that will let me grow these corals well? :D

Sorry if I come across as a complete bimbo. I know nothing about lights except theres an on/off switch and it glows.

That aside...do some research, and then go the direction you want. There are some fairly inexpensive LED's for smaller tanks. You just have to want to put in the elbow grease to build one. These would also be good, allowing you later to upgrade to hard corals.

Then again so would the t5's. Strictly speaking, all you NEED for softies is power compacts. Good luck.

Oh...and when the time comes, hit me up. Ill give you a huge softie frag pack on the cheap. Im shipping one out tomorrow. :D

Research, research, research. Reefing is not a read little and you are done hobby. And I don't mean asking on a forum or reading an online article or two, I mean books. Aquarium Corals by Eric Borneman is the best book I have ever read on corals. Reef Invertebrates by Calfo and Fenner is another essential in my opinion.

HOT5 with individual curved reflectors would be the way to go. You can start with a 2 bulb fixture for now and when you grow in the hobby to need more light you can add a second fixture. This can help spread out the cost and you will still end up in the same position (without having too much light in the beginning which can lead to more algae problems).

+1...I have a pile of reef keeping books and magazines probably as tall as I am...I need to clean those magazines out of my closet. :D ha

I always forget the magazines. TFH is good (good for freshwater and has decent saltwater in there). The best for saltwater though are Corals and Reef Life.
