Ok I dont know if some of you guys remember about my situation ( having a 55 gallon the only large tank that are currently housing most of my cichlids). Well I went to the store yersterday and I saw mid Firemouths for only 7.99 and I have the money to buy at least four pairs, but like I say I dont have the space. Therefore I was thinking of trading some of my cichlids for a pair of firemouths and I want to know yalls opinion on that. I have a pair of convicts, Red Zebras, a yellow lab, and a pair of something else I dont know the name. I m thinking on trading the convicts but the store doesnt want them. They want my JD, and there isnt anymoney in the world that will make me sell or trade it. But I reall want those firemouths. What should I do ?

OK...... You won't beable to keep 4 pairs of firemouths in one 55 gal. Your dempsey is probably gunna kill them anyways and if he doesn't he will need a tank that size to himself anyways.

get a another tank, like 29gals, then get one pair for it.

ohhh Well I have a 29 that have like 5 of my Red Zebra babies, but I didnt know Firemouths could go in a 29gallon. I mean the ones that I want are that big but still I tought I had to have 55 or biger tank.

Well one pair should be alright in a 29 gallon. They dont get too big.

Chad

1 pair in a 29 gallon should be alright 4 pairs might just rip each other up if they start breeding

So how do I sex firemouths ? is it the same? long dorsal fins for males and short dorsal fins for females or are they like convicts that you have to look at the colors of their bellies?

wat i would do is trade in all ur fish..since your tank seems preety random... and do a trio of firemouths and then..and put some other fish like a catfish or something to make it a nice tank with lots of driftwood, and caves and it will look like the ****... woot woot: :woot:

Thats a little too much for a fifty five, exspecially if your convicts are a breeding pair. If the firemouths paired up also you'd be in for some serious trouble. And your JD would be caught right in the middle of it.
My friend has a breeding pair of firemouths in the same 55 as a Green Terror and the GT gets pushed around all the time.
