Okay, now I've never kept an insect before in my life, excluding feeder crickets. And I've always loved mantids. In fact, when I was about three, we had a nest in our back yard and they came back every year. They were so friendly and let us pic them up no problem. But yknow, they were just your average, garden-variety, green praying mantids.
And then I found this guy. This is the Devil's Flower Mantis, or Idolomantis diabolica. Look at that. It even has a kick-ass name. Other than that, I know nothing about them. Where they're from, their size (i know they're one of the largest mantids), their diet, or even if they're available in the pet trade, but I do know that I want one. I bet they're damn expensive, too.
-sigh- Someday.
