Hey guys i wanted to get a single peacock bass and wanted to know the smallest species of them i would keep it in a 3x18x18 for about 2 months as i would get it at about 8-9cm i would be getting a bigger home for it after that im getting a 4x2x2 soon.

the smallest pbass are interms but the chances of you getting those at 8-9cms are pretty slim. To be honest both those tanks are pretty small to house pbass for life but if you persist I'd get an orino as they tend to grow slower than the others and that would give you a few months..

there's been an argument made for kelberi's taxonomy to be a max of 9-18" depending on origin of local. the other smallest is intermedia at a max of 18-20". Both go for fairly high prices, and are in very high demand. So they may not be the best place to look. I'd say up your tank to a 6'x3' (adult) at least and look into mono's and occels. (26"ish max)

since youre in aussie im pretty sure the smallest youre gonna get is mono/ocell...
but they will outgrow that tank fast.
plus singles suck...

this is very true^ and i have see some pictures of intermedias caught in south america that look huge. orinos grow the slowest, but the slowest is still very fast and i don't think a cichla could stay in any of those tanks for life. since you are from the land of oz i think from which cichla you would like and what you could physically get your hands on gets narrowed down to what you can find in your lfs.
