coelacanth?

Yeah I asked a couple of LFS about ordering one, apparently they're quite hard to get hold of. Rare fish.

You're kidding, right? No lfs ANYWHERE will be able to get a hold of one anytime sooon, if ever. They live in very deep water (300' +) and would require a pressurized system of several thousand gallons. A system such as that would cost thousands and thousands of dollars, probably several hundred thousand. I suspect that it's something that a lfs would be interested in investing money into just to sell off the fish after a small amount of time...

If I remember correctly, Those fish were thought to be extinct for years until some guy found a village that had been catching and eating them as their main food source. I really don't think there is even one in captivity. I seen a picture of one in a fishtank a while back but I think It was a holding tank for a quick study and release. That is an interesting point, does anyone have any info or pics of any in captivity, if so I (and I'm sure some other MFKers) would like to see them.

i must say that it is very nice looking though!

Never been kept in captivity before...supposedly some guy in Africa is working on it...presserized tank and all.

Here you go:

Someone is building a house with a tank for keeping them in!

I did see a doco on the Coelacanth once, they have discovered a few isolated populations in the wild and there was footage of one in an aquarium/tank at a research facility but I dont know if it survived long?
