A lfs has a 14-15 inch beefy barred midas with a big ol' nuchal hump. It is about 6-7 years old. It is in a 240 at the lfs and with other fish peacefully. They want $175 for him. I really don't know if that is too much or not. What do you guys think? I know fish are worth whatever they are to the individual, but I am curious what a fair market price for such a fish might be?

I think you could get a good sized wild caught from Rapps for that. that's just me though.

I have tried. He has been the stores pet for awhile and was not technically for sale. That is the price for which they are willing to let him go.

Just buy a smaller one and grow it out if thats possible. Imo thats too much for a fish that could "go" on you at any time. 6-7 years old is an old fish. I would say $100 CANADIAN would be tops. Not American though. Just my thoughts :)

I agree with D-Train..... I'd save the money and order a Chanco from Rapps! He'll get to that size in a year... and even bigger! You'll save yourself about $150 and get a better bred fish from a reliable source!

Show us pictures....if the fish is a stunner you can't put a price on it. If you can afford it do it up...

That's too much imo but the "gotta have it factor" could be much higher seeing it person. Most people are probably thinking $100 is about right so it's almost double the ideal price. If you think it's worth it to you personally, go for it.

*EDIT* to say bring on the pics.

Some times we need to use patience.........raise your own fish, in a year you will have YOUR OWN fish, not one somebody else raised.
