Anyone have anyone of these? or herd of them? are they hard to get? Anyone selling any? thanks

Chrysichthys ornatus
Clarotes laticeps
Paulicea lutkeni

don't know much about the first two, but you could look them up. The Paulicea lutkeni is actually a revised species. Check Zungaro zungaro that's the new scientific name. They are frequently referred to as a Jau, or native tongue Jhau. They are the bulldogs of the pimelodidae family. They can grow to more than 7' in the wild and over 300 lbs. They are frequently caught over 200 lbs. There are many reports early in the century of this fish getting well over 500 lbs, and about 8 1/2'. I have many many pics of them over 150-200 lbs. They grow relatively slow compared to how large they can get. That being said they still maintain a growth rate similar to that of a rtc, or tsn. About 2-3" per month when small, and about 1" per month after they hit the 1' mark. I got one about 4 months ago at 12". He is now around 17" so he's been doing slightly more than 1" per month. I know of people that have had them for 3 years and they said their's was a little over 3'. So very comparible to rtc up to 3 years, and after that they maintain their slow growth for life, and their nasty attitude. Mine ate 2 fish the same size as him. He bit them in half and ate them piece by piece. Not for the faint of heart. I would say a minimum tank of 1000 gal, if not 1500 gal.

A lady on here rescued him from a small mistreated tank. She didn't have room to grow him out and fear that he would eventually eat her other fish, so I had it shipped to me so that I could put him in my pond. I have lost several fish to it, but kinda worth it considering that it's such a rare fish to see in the hobby. I'd never part with him for the world. I have no info on how much they would normally cost or what time of the year they would come in. It's just a mere coincidence that I even have this fish.

necro, can you get some pics up of that beast? being so rare and all, i doubt many people have seen one.

There are alot of pics of his Jau in the thread Catfish Bonanza under the catfish forum. There haven't really been any baby ones for sale stateside in the past 1-2 years that I'm aware of. Only a couple sellers had them and they had very few, you don't even see them on the European/Japanese sites very often. I would assume pricing to be $60-100 for a smaller one but thats just a guess. If you were looking for one best bet is probably someone line massive aggression or another importer direct from SA.

Chrysichthys Ornatus:
I've seen this catfish for sale on a couple Japanese sites but don't think they get imported to the US that often not because they are super rare just they aren't imported.

Clarotes laticeps:
Isn't that the same fish as the African Flathead Catfish? If so someone on the board has a pair of large ones like 2ft+ but I can't remember who it was...someone with alot of big/nice tanks though. You might be able to find the pics through search and ask them where they bought theirs.

I attached a few pics of baby Jau for reference ~Trent

Here's a few adult pics of them. There are many pics of mine in my catfish bonanza thread. Don't have any pics of him here with me at work.

Oh I remember reading that thread. Just the other day I did, I was wondering if they kept him or gave him to you. So they dont keep their spots as they get older? Thanks for the info

Its Chad off AP with Clarotes laticeps ;)

They do, but they are really unrecognizable at a large size. Some will fade completely depending on the area that they are from. There are several subspecies. Generally they stay really dark, and the spots become harder and harder to see with large size.
