I would like to hear storys and hopefully see pictures from people who have kept Red Tail Cats past the 24" mark.

I want to know about setup, food, maintenance, everything.

It seems so common to hear of people with there 6x2 taking on one of these monsters and i think it would be great to commendate those who have stuck it out!

Ive kept mine to the 26" mark (approx) in a 6x2. Shes about to be moved to an indoor pond, and after that a plywood tank.
I do 50-60% waterchanges once a week. Although it should probably twice a week or more.
She gets fed either a handful of massivore, a basa fillet or a couple of cubes of a frozen "marine green" food every couple of days. I used to feed her prawns stuffed with massivore and peas but she has gotten fussy and its takes alot of preparation time to get those prawns ready so I dont bother with them at the moment.

Shes a happy little fish that likes to play with her heater, move her gravel around the tank and splash water on the floor at 3 o'clock in the morning

Haha but shes not so little lol

Shes beautiful i hope the pond goes well! I think this thread will be educational for younger members dreaming of monster cats.

well done:headbang2

She is little when you realise thats she'll be twice her current size in a few years. I cant wait to say that I own a catfish thats big enough to swallow my arm.
Oh and dont mention that fact to your fiance. Tends to put them off a bit.

Might currently take mine to my uncles pond in TX ( I got 3 of These lil guys in 1,800g) they make me spend $50 on food for them everyweek I have no money left over for my self then ): so i have to get loans from my mom

What the heck are you feeding these monsters, that's like 20lbs of seafood a week for them. Can you adopt me to :D

I agree with you, lol.

If you are feeding them seafood it would be a lot cheaper, sounds like you're feeding like frozen krill and silversides from the LFS, lol. I think a FULLY grown catfish would cost around $50 a month to feed, whereas I don't think yours are even close to fully grown.

^ that's coming from the guy who wanted to build a huge shark tank with no worries about money maybe two weeks ago ha

=P we'll se who wil have the last laugh... Anyway I feed them squid, tilapia, market shrimp, worms, & meal worms feed them different stuff every day am trying to grow them fast as possible. Squid is new and they seem to like it it replaced there silver sides
