Here is what we picked up on our collecting trip today. Some of the stuff is being held in my 75 brackish until we can set up a big enough tank at school for them.

And that was all found in brackish water? Some of them look like salt species. The sea cucumber may need lots of light to survive.

that eel is pretty sweet!

They aren't eels, they are pipefish.

Think of them as non squigly sea horses, and yes, they came from a secluded bay in southern Delmarva.

What are the fish in the first pic?

They are striped killies (males I believe). When we first caught them, they looked like striped bass fry. These guys are 4 inches now and I bet will get bigger. They are pretty cool fish. They are already going after pellets!

Good job collectiong! Thanks for sharing!

Thanks, we would have pulled in more but we had a few difficulties when we were there. My partner was going to bring a cast net so we could collect from the kayaks but he left it at home. Also, the class has been historically upperclassmen, but this year it was a lot of very immature sophmores that did more splashing than seining which made catching stuff very very hard. One of the kids tried to put a full size Blue Crab in the collection bin with the killies and I was very angry to say the least! They do not understand that blue crabs are predators and will eat our catch. We did also catch a huge spider crab, which was pretty cool. We also caught lots of horseshoe crabs and saw an entire beach of fiddlers run at once into their little holes! I also saw a snail kill a crab in our collecting jar!
