I went collecting today in order to re-stock my 55g today. I decided not to make the 45 minute drive to the nearest decent Ozark stream and stayed in town. I found an access point to Hinkson Creek on Missouri's conservation department website and decided to give it a try. I've collected in a different area of Hinkson Creek when I took ichthyology and we caught loads of rainbow darters and even one brook silverside (a really neat little fish). My roomates were all busy so using a seine was out of the question unfortunately, but I had decent success with my throw net and even better success with my dip net. I ended up keeping maybe 8 blackspotted killifish, two blackbanded killifish, and maybe ten mosquitofish. My longear sunfish quickly gobbled up three when I first introduced them to the tank, but I think some of the killifish may be large enough to avoid getting eaten. The new fish look great in the tank especially since I just bought a new two bulb T5 light fixture. I'm planning on collecting some more withing the next couple weeks and I'll be sure to post some pics. I'm hoping to get some darters, bigger killifish, and longears when I make the drive down to the river.
