Some species are sexually dimorphic, IE; Frontosas and the "nuchal hump" which is a big knob on the male's head. Some species differ in color male-female. Like Guppies, plus males (mollies, platies also) have a phallic-shaped anal fin called a gonopodium.. More than a few are NOT sexually dimorphic, females are just a little heavier in the body than males, like piranhas. Some, are not dimorphic until they're sexually mature: Male goldfish develop white tubercules on their gillplates. It all depends on the species of fish you're intending on getting whether or not it would be easy to sex the fish.
