Would it be okay to convert a bath tub into a turtle tank? I have a red eared slider in an twenty long which i know is way to small (thankfully shes not full size!!!) I have a 125 gal but can't put her in it until my basement is done being renovated. So i was wondering if i cleaned it out could i put her in it?

I have no idea if you could or not.........I'm sure it would ruin the tub though..........why not for now until your 125 is setup put her in a rubbermaid like bin? Here's how Vicious Fish did it -> http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=102828&page=2

Post #15, with pictures and good directions.....Hope this helps.......

THats a good idea. THe only reason i wanted to use the tub was because i could drain water super fast, without really having to do anything. I put her in there today while i was cleaning the tank and she really seemed to like it. If i do get a rubber maid i might just keep her in there. Otherwise i was actually considering making the tub her perminant home. Im not sure, however how many gallons can go into the tub, and i really wanted to get another turtle. (yellow belly slider) I just dont know if i could have two in the tank.

Most bathtubs are 50 gallons, but have pretty good dimensions. How big is the tub? I assume it would make water changes incredibly easy... you could do 25% changes every day with little hassle at all. I dont see why a bathtub wouldnt make a good permenant home.

It wouldn't hurt the tub at all. Is this a loose tub or one in your house that is installed? I have seen regular tubs buried in the ground and used for ponds.

its installed. I would disinfect it and then set it up. As i said before, i do want to get another turtle, and i dont know if two sliders could work in that tank. I think id rather just put them in the 125 cuz i would want to get a male. If they mate, (which i dont really want) SHe'll need sand or she'll become egg bound. I dont know how easy it would be to incorporate sand into the tub.

I wouldn't do it for home quality reasons. It doesn't make sense financially or health wise to devote a installed tub to a turtle or two. It will pretty surely turn into a mess, leave you with one less tub and a weird bathroom.

You can buy a large rubbermaid tub for less than $100.00 I bet. And I think sand/debris would clog your drain after a while. I believe some of the rubbermaids have drains on the lower part of one side that you could hook up a hose to and/or a valve for draining to make it a tad easier. Just my thoughts.

I agree, your will be scrubbing some bacteria and algae out of bath tub after you no longer want to keep the turtles in there. In addition, their will be constant humidity, mold, bathroom is a closed place, lack of circulating water (regardless of draining daily, turtles are dirty) it will be more work then ur looking for. Just get rubber maid tub, EVEN preform garden ponds cost less then 100, with some over 300 gallons, just only 120-150 dollars, lol or better then a tub, a kiddie pool, how expensive are they?

If it is just temp. I was going to say kiddie pool. Rubbermaids can be a pain to store, but you can sell them pretty easily. They also cost a lot more then kiddie pools.
