Which brand of salt for this kind of treatment do you guys recommend? The first time in a few years, I may have a case of ich in my tank. I am noticing a bunch of micro white specks on my redtail cat and marble cat, and they weren't there yesterday. I recently fed them a bunch of feeder fish and I usually just net the fish out, but the bag split against the tank and water got into my tank. So I at least know where the ich came from if in fact that is what my catfish have.

Your insight would be most helpful.

Just noticed the post of similar nature... Sorry.

Aquarium salt. I've heard table salt has iodine and too much is bad for catfish.

Of course, you could try an organic chemical like Ich Attack which I have heard works and am using it right now.

Ive always used my salt and never had a problem before.

This is a quote from me asking which "salt" would be best to use for my ich problem with some cats I had before, here is a response I got...

"The level of Iodine is so low that it will not matter. If you are ok with being 99% safe use it. If you need that extra 1% get kosher or any non iodized salt."

sea chems paragaurd works great and its quick.... used it on loaches and cat fish many times

Very true...for the most part you would pickle your catfish in brine before iodine would reach a toxic level. :D

I use the regular Doc Wellfish Aquarium Salt. One rounded tablespoon per 5 gallons of water, increase the temp AND AIRATION because there is much less oxygen in warm water...just a preventative measure.

Thanks guys. Like I said, I take extreme measures to make sure my cats are healthy and this is just killing me.

I already raised the temp from 76-77f to 80-81f. I just need to add the salt. Also, would an airstone work for adding additional oxygen? I use one in my wet/dry and I have reverse flow pumps pushing up from the gravel to circulate water. I can easily add the airstone to the main tank if recommended to do so?

Last, how long between water changes of the tank while the salt is doing its thing?
