So i took a look into my 20 this morning and saw that the upside down catfish seemed to have white spots ive never noticed before, these are my girlfriends fish that were eventually gona be taken back to big als, i have a 65 cycling right now or my fish and hers wont be joining :p so anyways i googled ich and it seemed to me like all 3 of the catfish had it, but not one of my other fish did, so right away i scooped them all up and flushed them, being worried about my other fish i hopped back on google only to find out that it seems like the upside down catfish didnt have ich but the spots were actually part of thier markings lol i google imaged and wht do u knw almost every upside down cat has these white spots, so i freaked out, and flushed 3 fish for nothing

Why would you flush them anyway. If it was ich you could just raise the temp to 86 and add salt to cure it???

im a rookie as you can tell, just kinda freaked out, just got my 65 up and running and thought i spent all that money for nothing, like i said looked up ich pics i didnt do any actual reading and they looked spot on to pics of ich, i dont have the money right now to buy meds or as your telling me salt so i thought the quicker they get out maybe i had a chance to safe the others. Atleast next time i knw to do what you said, i basically just got too worked up and flustered.

if they did have ich you would have wanted to treat the tank anyway, as it would have been infected even though the other fish were showing no signs it could reappear.

i dont think ich knowledge falls into the common sense category, i already confirmed i didnt knw anything about ich and realized after my mistake, and the way i was thinking was get the ones out that are showing the symptoms, and maybe that will slow down the process while i can do a little research

All I have to ask is why wouldn't you have researched it while looking at pictures? you obviously had the time.

On a side note, what are you planning on stocking your 65 gallon with?

I thought taking them out would slow down the spread until i could do some reading and i did, i read that if its showing symptoms then ur water is already infected, and how it can latch onto ur plants and decor and multiply, after i read a lil bit i watched my fish for a little bit and saw no other symptoms which doesnt mean they arent there, but then i wondered if i had over reacted and if i had it confused with markings, and so be it i was wrong. I did more reading on it even after i realized i flushed my fish for nothing, but the info would have def helped waaaaay before. As for my 65 im stocking it with a peacock eel, spotted raphael, delhezi bichir, gold saum, and a black ghost knife, i knw the knife is gona get way too big but i already have a friend with a 225 that is gona take him. The saum has shown no aggression at all towards any of my other fish, and it will be planted, i have the hardscape settled and am planning to start planting within a week, not introducing fish for a month or two
