I have a 55 gal. that has only been occupied about 2 weeks and noticing a few of my cichlids and algae eater have ick. My BGK is also in here with it. How can I do treatment without killin my BGK? I have some Wardleys essentials Ick away. It says nothing about knife fish, but does say for sensitive species to use half doses. Should I do this, or try another med? Thanks in advance

From what Ive read thetemp has to be at 89-90 dgrees to kill it. Well my thermometer only goes to 86

Well it seems my heater wont heat water over 83?? Its been on all the way for over 24hrs. It turns on for a few secs then turns off for a few secs. repeat

What's the wattage on your heater? You don't really need to bump it to 89F-90F. 84F-86F would be suffice. I've always used meds, but the salt method works as well. If you're going to use meds, for BGKs, use half the dosage.

Yeah, 84F should work fine. Because of the BGK, use 1 tablespoon per 15 gallons of water, or in your 55 just use 4 tablespoons total. Do daily 30% water changes, replacing the salt you take out, until a couple of days after all the ich clears.

PS: I've used Norton's table salt without any problems, just make sure there's no iodine in it (if it has iodine, it will say "IODIZED" in big yellow letters).
