Ich & lighting

i've read a few places to keep the aquarium lights off while treating ich? is this accurate?

im not sure if it effects the ich,
but i have ich in my tank right now and i only keep 1 light on its very dim less stress on the fish..

no ich doesn't need light but light destroys malachite green, a ich treatment.
