I was wondering what type of medication I can use that won't knock my bb colony down.

What kind of fish do you have?

Best way to treat ich for cichlids is 88F heat, aquarium salt, and water changes. Just make sure you have enough aeration due to elevated water temperature.

Dose aquarium salt at 1 tablespoon per 5-10 gallons and do a waterchange every other day. Should clear up within two weeks, good luck!

My heater won't let me go that high. I might b to small. And I'm going away next Saturday. I'll do salt and WCs every other day.

If you do have ich, then you can raise the temp in the room that the tank is in by 6 degrees, then the heater will then be able to get the tank to at least 86, preferably 87-88. In that case, you could use just heat and salt. Add aeration. Heat at 86 or higher will accelerate and disrupt the ich life cycle enough to kill it.

If you can't raise the temp that high, then you will have to go with medication. In that case, don't use salt. Follow the directions on the ich medication exactly (and make sure it's safe for your fish etc.)
Before using the meds, remove any carbon if you use that, do a water change, and make sure to vacuum the substrate.
