I Just looked at my fish and I have an ich outbreak. I'm going to pick up the big bottle of nox-ich at my LFS tomorrow. What I'm worries about mostly is that I have fish coming in the mail and they're supposed to be here tomorrow sometime. I don't have a backup tank at the moment because me dad commandeered it. I was thinking I would just put the new fish in with the sick fish and treat everybody. Will this work? Would it help to do a big water change before medicating?

crank up the heat to 87 to 89 for 3 weeks and all be fine. will not hurt your fish, they just be a little hungry and tad more aggressive. can salt if you want but i never used it.

Do a large 50%+ water change and treat as discribed above.

standerd is 2 weeks after that last one falls off your fish, I go 3, again the warmer water not hurt the fish so in this case better to much than not enough.

Thanks for the fast replies! So should I not use any medication? And as for the new fish, should I Just stick them straight into the sick tanks and hope everything works out?

If you don't have another tank you don't have much choice. What kind of fish are you getting? What fish do you already have in the tank? What size is the tank? How long has it been set up and running?

The tank is 85 gallons, there are currently 3 oscars (all less than 3 inches), 1 gold severum (about 2"), and a baby jag (2"). I'm getting 2 more gold severums (2" or less), and 3 firemouth cichlids (all 2 inches or less). The tank has been up for almost 2 years. My water quality is always spectacular and I do weekly 50 percent water changes. I haven't ever had issues with my water. I have kinda been over feeding, could this have been what did it?

Stress will cause an outbreak (this could be caused by water quality issues from overfeeding) or temp fluctions, there are several reasons it can happen. One thing is certain, without a plan going foward that tank will be over stocked and water quality as well as agression could become an issue. I understand the fish are small now but Oscars grow quickly as well as Jags so in a few months time they will be running out of space and creating a lot of waste. I see you've been a member for almost a year so what I'm saying you probibly already know but it's worth repeating. Keep the water as clean as possibile and do regular filter cleanning and substrate vacuming so your nitrates remain as low as possibile, elavated nitrate levels cause low level stress and impair the immune system making fish vulnerable to various illnesses.

Thanks for the tip. I am fully aware that my tank will be overstocked. I bought 3 oscars so that I could pick my favorite one. I will be doing away with 2 of them soon. The jag was my little brother's fish and as soon as it starts causing problems you best believe that its the next one out of the tank. haha my goal is to end up with a pair from the severums and firemouths and to have the one oscar. I know the 85 may not be good enough to hold the oscar for life but by the time I need a bigger tank Ill be able to afford a bigger one. I do have a plan, but you are right to be concerned. I have learned a ton from this site.
