Hey this past week has been horrible for me, all my fish have died from Ich except for one, the "sucker fish" he does not have any white dots on him and i dont think he's infected. I have him in a separate fish bowl and right now i'm trying to disinfect my large 55 gal tank. I've put almost boiling water in my tank 3 times now full water change and i tried to clean through all my silica sand and gravel. my tank is split half sand half gravel. Do you think all the Ich has been killed from my tank and can i start fresh with new fish? What should I do with my "sucker" fish if i put him in the new tank will he contaminate it? Thanks for the help guys and gals!

I was hopeing the boiling water would kill all the ich, i have ich treatment and i was doing it for 4 days and now all fish are dead so i want to start from scratch. I think my tank should be good now, not sure about the sucker fish and plant if I should put them in the new tank or what.

Well now your gonna have to cycle your tank.

Just out of curiosity, did you check water params when your fish had ich? Most of the time fish with ich die from something else that is stressing them and the ich develops because of this stress.

Do you have a heater?? Next time just turn up the heat to get rid of ich............

I checked my ph, it was at 7.0 my ammonium levels were between 0-.25

Ich is a slow killer. It will not just kill your fish as soon as your fish gets it, unless it's highly stressed or somewhat compromised before hand.

When I had ich (only once) I did a 50 percent water change and since I have tropicals (tetras, loaches etc) I used QuICK Cure (malachite green formula) at half the dosage normally needed for scaled fish. I did this every 24 hours for 3 days, and at the water temp at 80, it worked like a charm.

Check your tank for dead fish that may have gotten stuck under something and is decaying, or dead plants etc...

I don't recommend salt, as some fish are highly sensitive to it.

Good luck.
