A tank that I am going home to get this weekend previously had an infection with ick many years ago when I was a kid, we had gotten rid of the ich and used it again since the problem and it hasn't had any water in it in probably close to 8-10 years. However, since it previously contained ich, what precautionary measures would you suggest to take during the cycling of the new tank to make sure it is sanitary other than just washing it out to the best of my ability. Although that was probably 10 years ago when the ich was in the tank would it be best to put some ich treatment in while the tank is cycling even after washing it? any advice would be great, thanks.

You're worrying too much. The ich died a long time ago. There is no dormant phase. You're fine using it but if you're worried, bleach it.:)

ok thanks just wanted to be safe rather than sorry haha :P

I agree with Lupin, you're over-thinking the issue. If you bleach the tank, just make sure you wash it out the bleach really well. I personally believe you are better off just setting the tank up without bleaching it.

Its all dead...did you get your jag????

mmk thanks everybody, and not yet moloch im going home to get the tank friday coming back and setting it up sunday and then letting it run for probably close to a week before buying anything to put in it
