I'm new to the hobby. I have a 55 gallon tank that has been up for 16 days. My ammonia was high so I used API ammo-lock according to the bottle. Yesterday I did a 20% water change ammonia was still high after following direction for a week. Yesterdays readings were 7.6 ph, 8.0 PPM ammonia (I'm sure that the ammo-lock converted to non toxic for but still reading high) 0.25 ppm nitrites, 40 ppm nitrates. All the fish seem to be doing fine except 2 fish. An angel fish has been hiding and it looked like it was rubbing itself on one of the artificial plants today. The other one fish has white spots on it's tail and fins near it's gills I noticed it 3 days ago. So I thought it was ich so i raised the temp to 80. my heater won't heat past 80. I also added salt to help. There has been no change in spots or any other fish infected that I can tell. I don't know what to do from here. I attached a couple of photos of the fish with the spots.

More water changes. 50% every day til ammonia is gone.
Ammonia will kill fish before ich will.
Slow down feeding.
Possible tank didn't cycle.
Make sure to add enough salt every time.
And a small UV wouldn't hurt.

The ammo lock stuff will give you a false positive for amm sometimes, how long has the tank been setup with fish in it? Bump heat up to 85 and add aquarium salt 1 tbls per 5 gal of water

Did a 50% water change. Also added salt and start right water conditioner to the new water before adding. Noticed my filters not flowing very well. I changed the filters. I wasn't sure about changing the filters because I thought I would loose the beneficial bacteria. But I realized I also have a UGF. So I think I'm ok there. Tomorrow I will check the ammonia level again to see if things are better.

I can't get my tank up to 85. The highest I can get it with the heater I have is 80. Will the salt be enough to get rid of the ich? I'm on day 4 of treating for the ich. My angel fish that was having problems did not make it this morning. The other fish in the tank don't have any change in behavior. The one fish that has the white specks still has them. No change there. I just checked the ammonia level today and it has went down from 8.0 to 4.0 ppm. I will do another 50% water change today.

The salt will kill the new eggs of the parasite.
Keep doing water changes

Did a 50% water change last night. Ammonia is at 2 or 3 today. Fish all seem to be fine. No changes in the ich. I'm wondering if the ammonia reading is just coming up false. Should I continue with the daily water changes?

I also added another filter (sponge filter) I'm thinking that the UGF doesn't have enough beneficial bacteria. Maybe I shouldn't of replace the filter on the HOB. BUt they were completely plugged. I believe they got plugged from when I went camping for 4 days and had discs for food during that time.
