Hi all,

When my tank got sick at the beginning of last week, I tested all the water parameters & did the salt/heat treatment. It looked to be clearing up on Friday, so I did another water change/gravel vac & re-salted the tank. I left the tank temp at 81 degF.
Apparently I was wrong, because when I came in on Monday (tank is at office), all 3 of my Pictus Cats were dead & my Rubberlip Pleco was crusted with Ich spots! At that point, I did another WC & decided to try some "API Super Ick Cure" from Petsmart, since the cats already died. It seems to be working for the Mollies & Gouramis (they are almost clear), but my Rubberlip is still crusty. My questions:

1) How will I know when the tank is completely clear of Ick?

2) Is the Rubberlip sensitive to the medicine like the Pictus (scale-less)? He seems fine other than spots/discomfort...

3) Any other ideas/recommendations?

THANKS!!

Seriously?...Nobody? I've looked everywhere in the disease forums. If this has been answered somewhere else, let me know...

Thanks guys! Bumpity.

Has the temperature been consistent that way? Did you dissolve the salt and added it slowly?

To answer your questions, once the ich appears to clear up, do treatment for another full week to be sure the ich is completely eradicated. Be sure to dissolve the salt thoroughly as the grains can burn the skin of several bottom dwellers.

One more question... My Rubberlip Pleco is improving as far as the Ick spots (much fewer), but he is very lethargic. He just sits in the corner in full light & doesnt run away when I move. He usually hides all day & runs for the dark when I turn on the light. Should I be concerned, or is he just recovering? I know he likes fast, cold water with low salinity & I dont want to lose him due to the salt & heat... I have the powerhead at full blast & he's just chilling in the current. What do you veterans think? Should I drop the temp a little to see if he gets more active, or maybe lower the salinity since the tank is already medicated? Thanks!!!!

Drop the temperature to 78 degrees Fahrenheit but keep the salt dosage consistent.

I'd treat a full extra week, but that is just my opinion. No facts. I've just seen it come back once to often.
You do state a valid point.:) I also recommend that.
